Seal up the skillet up in the plastic bag and leave the cleaner-soaked skillet outside or in the garage for 24 hours to let everything soak in. After 24 hours, scrub the skillet with steel wool and very, very hot soapy water. Itβs best to wear rubber gloves for this step again. Rinse skillet and repeat this step.
Use a paper or cloth towel to rub a thin layer of a high-heat vegetable oil (such as canola or avocado) all over the surface (interior and exterior). You donβt need much β just a thin layer. Place pan upside down on a center rack and bake for 1 hour. Then turn off the oven but leave your cast iron inside the oven to cool for 1 hour.

Steps. 1. Use the pan. It must get dirty before you can clean it, or start with a dirty pan. [1] 2. Put the skillet back on the heat and pour off all excess fat with the exception of about 2 tablespoons (30 ml). If no fat is left, add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of oil. You need some fat/oil to help clean one way or another.
While the oven is heating, wash the skillet with warm, soapy water. Dry the pan thoroughly by using a dry cloth or paper towels. Using your choice of oil, add around 1 to 2 tablespoons to the pan and then use a paper towel to coat the entire pan, including the outside and bottom.
