It seems likely that those very old flashes may not be supported on a 2017 camera. The 400D was launched in 2006, and a lot has changed in 12 years. A 2006 model Canon flash would most likely work - I still use the 430 that I bought in 2008 on my 6D ii, but Canon has zero interest in supporting old 3rd party flashes.
